This work studies the effect of palladium ?-lipoic acid complex on the mechanical properties of blood and its effect as radioprotector in vitro. Whole blood was exposed to 100 Gy. The results showed that exposure to gamma radiation increased membrane rigidity and decreased membrane permeability. The interaction of palladium ?-lipoic acid complex with red blood cells membrane produced significant changes in their biophysical properties and increase membrane permeability. Its addition before irradiation was shown to provide significant protection to the red blood cells.
